Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Specialized monitoring and treatment for premature, critically ill, or medically vulnerable newborns.

Specialized Care for Newborns

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides focused care for premature and full-term newborns who need additional monitoring or treatment. The unit supports babies with respiratory difficulties, infections, feeding challenges, jaundice, low blood sugar, and other conditions requiring specialized neonatal care.

Our multidisciplinary team works to stabilize each baby, support healthy growth and development, and prepare families for a safe transition home.

  • Respiratory support, including CPAP and mechanical ventilation when required
  • Feeding support, including tube feeding and nutritional therapy

Supporting Families

Parents are important members of the care team. Staff explain the baby's condition, equipment, treatment plan, and progress in clear language. When clinically appropriate, parents may participate in feeding, skin-to-skin care, and other aspects of daily care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I receive information about my baby at any time?

The clinical team provides updates to the baby's authorized parent or guardian while protecting patient privacy. Families may also contact the NICU using the unit telephone number.

Can I hold my baby while they receive respiratory support?

Skin-to-skin care may be possible for some babies receiving respiratory support. The clinical team will decide when it is safe and help parents hold their baby securely.

What may I bring for my baby?

The unit provides essential routine supplies. Parents should check with NICU staff before bringing milk, clothing, toiletries, or personal items so the team can confirm they are safe and appropriate.

What happens after discharge?

Parents receive instructions about feeding, medications where required, warning signs, and follow-up care. Attending scheduled follow-up visits is important for monitoring the baby's growth and development.
